General Summary:
Under the general direction of the Development Director, the Development Assistant provides administrative support to the Development team. The Assistant will ensure that the administrative processes which support the fundraising effort run efficiently and performs routine duties to support the Development department in providing high-level delivery of donor service.
Overview:
Reporting to the Development Director, the Development Assistant enters data and donations into the donor database and the client services database, runs quality assurance reports as directed, and pulls addresses for mailings as requested. Through the use of detail-oriented organization, proficiency of technology, and strong attention to quality and accuracy, this position will enable JOURNEYS | The Road Home to reach its fund-raising goals and continue to strengthen and build new strong community relationships.

This work is primarily sedentary and requires travel throughout the service area as well as within the greater Chicago areas. The work schedule varies depending on the needs and services of the organization. Evening and weekend work is necessary in order to attend meetings or to participate in events. This position will require exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

Essential Requirements:
- A minimum of two years’ administrative experience
- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple priorities and complete projects
- Technological competency and willingness to learn new skills
- Ability to work independently, solve problems and actively seek assistance when needed
- Strong attention to detail
- Discretion and confidentiality with respect to donor records
- Familiar with the communities within JOURNEYS service area
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Essential Functions:
- GENERAL ADMINISTRATIVE & DATABASE SUPPORT | 80%
- Record and track donations in donor database
- Generate acknowledgements/thank you’s to donors
- Respond to all donors’ inquiries through written correspondence, telephone contact, personal contact, and email as directed
- Submit a regular summary report of donations including donors who have lapsed or significantly changed giving habits to Development Director
- Input new contacts into database as received
- Generate accurate reports, mailing lists, queries, and statistics as requested
- Enter reports of call, contacts, and new contact information into donor database
- Maintain hard copy and electronic documentation of donations and other donor records
- Assist with invoicing, accounting, and reporting of grant funds
- Other duties that support the needs of the Development Department, as assigned
- EVENTS AND MARKETING | 20%
- Provide administrative and technical assistance at all agency events
- Create mailing lists for invitations as directed
- Create mailing lists for appeals and newsletters as directed
- Prepare information packets and materials for all internal and external meetings and presentations
