General Summary:
Under the general direction of the Executive Director, the Bookkeeper is responsible for the overall management and quality assurance of the financial database, the financial reporting for the agency, and the timely filing of Federal, State and local financial reports.
Overview:
The Bookkeeper is responsible for the management, quality maintenance and upkeep of the JOURNEYS financial software – Quickbooks for non-profits, financial tracking and record keeping and creating financial reports as directed by the Treasurer and Executive Director.
Essential Requirements:
1. An Associate Degree or Bachelor Degree in accounting, financial management, business or a complimentary field.
2. Two to three years experience in bookkeeping
3. Proficient with Quickbooks for non-profits
4. Strong understanding of budgets and accounting standards
5. Ability to maintain appropriate boundaries with staff, volunteers and clients in all circumstances
6. Good inter-personal skills, ability to relate well with persons from a variety socioeconomic and cultural groups.

This work is primarily sedentary and requires travel throughout the service area as well as within the greater Chicago area. The work schedule varies depending on the needs and services of the organization. Evening and weekend work is necessary in order to attend meetings or to participate in events. This position will require exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

Essential Functions:
ADMINISTRATIVE FUNCTIONS | 100%
- Provide financial management and fiscal controls for the organization under the supervision of the Executive Director.
- Record and report on all monies due to and held by the organization.
- Ensure that all funds are properly deposited and disbursed in a timely manner.
- Render monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports of the organization to the Treasurer of the Board of Directors.
- Ensure that all Federal, State and local financial reports are filed on a timely basis.
- Participate in the preparation of the annual budget.
- Operate within the Journeys P&P of the agency bookkeeping and accounting system.
- Work with the contracted independent CPA to conduct an annual audit.
- Ensure that payroll and medical/dental benefits are managed effectively
- Work with the Development Department to reconcile batches, bank statements and deposits
