Part Time Driver & Facilities Associate

Department: Administration
Reports To: Transportation & Facilities Manager
Supervises: Not Applicable
Salary: $15/hr

JOURNEYS | The Road Home is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing comprehensive services and shelter to individuals and families experiencing homelessness and housing instability. Our mission is to empower those we serve to achieve self-sufficiency through a continuum of care that includes housing, supportive services, and community engagement. Position Overview:
Under the general direction of the Facilities/Transportation Manager, PT Driver and Facilities Associate is an entry level position responsible for transportation of our clients and maintenance of our facility. This job will require early morning and weekend availability. Depending on the season, hours will vary.
 
 
Essential Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Have a valid driver’s license
  • Have a good driving record
  • Comfort with driving an 8 passenger bus (no special license required)
  • Pass driving test administered by a supervisor
  • Pass a criminal background check
  • Ability to lift and move items in excess of 40 pounds
  • An ability to follow instructions and follow a schedule
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Subscription to and integration of the agency’s core values of Respect, Teamwork, Mission-Driven, and Commitment

Key Responsibilities:
 
DRIVING DUTIES | 45%
  • Pick up and deliver donations
  • Drive clients to appointments
  • Pick up/drop off of clients to and from PADS Sites
  • Pick up soiled linens from PADS Sites, deliver clean linens to PADS sites
  • Other duties as assigned
 
FACILITY & MAINTAINENCE | 45%
  • Upkeep of landscaping
  • General building repairs & maintenance
  • Other duties as assigned
 
ADMINISTRATIVE | 10%
  • Coordinate flex schedule with supervisor
  • Report maintenance needs of the vehicles
  • Coordinate scheduled maintenance appointments
  • Do not allow the vehicle to register under a quarter tank of gas
  • Fill up gas tank as needed
  • Assure that all vehicle fluids are maintained at the appropriate levels
  • Other duties as assigned

This work is primarily sedentary and requires travel throughout the service area as well as within the greater Chicago areas. The work schedule varies depending on the needs and services of the organization. Evening and weekend work is necessary in order to attend meetings or to participate in events. This position will require exerting up to 40 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
